Superintendent's Office

Dear ACS Community,

This past week and weekend, I was able to accompany our middle school athletes and scholars to the Friendship Games in Cochabamba.  While we won some games and lost others, I was very proud of how our students conducted themselves and played the games.  This was even recognized by the hosts when they awarded ACS the Certificate of Sportsmanship.  I can think of several examples that particularly impressed me.  At one point, it was thought that some of our math bowl team members would not be able to make the contest due to a schedule conflict.  A number of our other students stepped up, volunteering to participate if the rest of the team couldn't make it.  In the end, they were not needed, but the fact that they volunteered speaks volumes about their commitment and willingness to persevere despite obstacles.  In another instance, an injured player who could no longer compete in her normal sport, joined the cheerleading squad supporting our other teams.  Even our ACS parents, blew up balloons to provide more visible support during the cheerleading competition.  These and other instances are what made me especially proud to be a Cougar during the competition.

We have a busy week this week.  Today we have our normal board meeting.  Then the General Assembly will take place on Wednesday.  In addition, our teachers will be participating in an internal professional development conference, and we will host a Kindergarten showcase for new families on Wednesday.  Then, Thursday will be Secondary School conferences.    Finally, the week will cumulate with the Halloween Carnival on Friday.

We hope to see you at one or more of these events.

Have a great week ahead.

Yours,

Andrew

Atentamente,

 Andrew

Elementary School

Dear Elementary Parents,
I hope you had a nice weekend with your family. We have a busy few days coming up, please see below for all of the information:

Halloween at ACS: On Friday, October 27th, we will have a Halloween Costume Parade on campus during the day. From 9:30 am until snack recess, students from KG3 through Grade 5 will be participating in a parade to show off their Halloween costumes in the quad by our amphitheater. Parents will be allowed on campus to watch the parade - it should last about 20 minutes.

To help our entire student body have great fun on Halloween, we are asking for parent support in helping your child pick an appropriate costume for school. We ask for costumes to not be graphically gory or overly frightening. We also ask for your support in not allowing costume weapons (guns, blasters, swords, etc.).

In the evening of Friday, October 27th, following our Halloween Costume Parade, ACS will be hosting our annual Halloween Fair starting at 6:00 pm. More details on this event will be coming soon! Thanks so much for your support!

MAP Parent Coffee: This past Friday we hosted Grade 1 through 8 parents at our Parent Coffee: Understanding Your Child's MAP Scores. We would like to thank everyone who was able to make it, and we remain available for your questions on how to read MAP scores, or how you can support your child's learning and growth at home! You can view the presentation here

Upcoming Parent Coffee CFG Edition: Developing Skills to Help Children Regulate their Emotions. On Tuesday, October 31st at 8:15 am, we are so happy to host our second Parent Coffee. We will be giving a presentation on ACS' approach to helping children label, understand, and regulate their emotions, and share some ideas on how you can support this learning at home. Following the presentation we will use a protocol or structured conversation to support parents in developing skills to help their children with their emotions with some especially challenging scenarios. To join, please click the poster to the right and scan the QR code. We hope to see you there!

Call for Recycled Materials for our Makerspace! We are collecting Makerspace materials! Our

Secondary School

Dear Parents,

It was great to spend last Thursday-Saturday at the Middle School Friendship Games in Cochabamba. Our competitors did an amazing job and represented our school well! The students worked hard and gave it their best, and really enjoyed their time together. We look forward to hosting the High School Friendship Games here at ACS November 16-18 where we will be able to provide the same warm hospitality that was shown to us by our friends at Cochabamba Cooperative School.

We look forward to seeing all of you this Thursday for Parent-Teacher-Student Conferences. Middle and High School teachers will be available in the Secondary Library 8:00-11:00 and 12:00-3:00 for brief (5-7 minute) conferences, and you can choose to meet with any teachers during those times. No classes will occur on that day, and conferences will not be available between 11:00 and 12:00. Those needing longer conferences are welcome to schedule a meeting on another day/time.

Most of you know that Carolina Soliz joined us last month as our new Secondary Assistant. Please contact her via email (carolina.soliz@acslp.org) or phone with any questions or to report an absence. Regarding absences, if your child will be away from school for a multi-day event or trip, please ask them to pick up a Pre-Arranged Absence Form from Ms. Soliz and then take it to each of their teachers to develop a plan to complete any missed work prior to the absence.

Learning & Teaching

Eric and Ann thoroughly enjoyed speaking with parents last Friday morning about MAP tests and how to understand the results.

For those who were not able to attend, please take a look at Understanding Your Child's MAP Scores and do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions:
