Superintendent's Office

 Dear ACS Community,

I hope that your families were able to spend time together during the Thanksgiving break.  I know I am thankful to be a part of this school community and I am also thankful for the opportunity to work together with the community to revision the future of ACS.

Just before the break, we had an opportunity to begin that with the faculty and a talented group of students.  During that session, we examined what we value in the ACS experience.  Then we considered how we could use time both through the year and through the day to better support the things that we value.  Next week, our Steering Committee for Strategic Planning will have their inaugural meeting to begin their initial work.  They will start by ascertaining whether our current mission and vision truly represents what our community values, or whether they need to be adjusted to better reflect our current needs and intentions.

This week we have a number of school events.  Today (Monday) we will have our board meeting.  Then on Wednesday, the Middle and High School drama students will put on a showcase entitled “The Act of Life”.  On Thursday night and Friday morning, we have two (repeated) opportunities for Middle School parents to come out and learn about changes to our middle school mathematics program and how they can best support their children.   It will be a hands-on event where you will get to do mathematics yourself.    On Friday, we will have a secondary concert.  Finally, I will host an event for faculty kids at my home entitled “Tea with Santa” on Saturday.  I look forward to seeing many of you at the shows and events this week.

Elementary parents, mark your calendars for an elementary school mathematics night next week.  It will take place on the morning of 8 December.  It will also be an active session that will focus on how you can best support your children.

Have a great week ahead.

Yours,

Andrew

Estimada comunidad ACS,

Atentamente,

Andrew

Dear Parents,
I sincerely hope that you had a wonderful Thanksgiving and 4-day break. Mine was wonderful, I enjoyed some camping and rock climbing with my family. Now, we're back in action and heading into the final 3 weeks of the semester. These weeks will be action-packed, there are many, many events coming. To make this slightly easier to manage, I've created a calendar of events, which you can find at the bottom of this post, with links to more information.

Positive Elementary Parent Partners (PEPP): I would also like to announce a new initiative in the elementary school. I am inviting parents to share their interest in joining a small group in service of the elementary community. If interested, please see the poster below for more information:

Tomorrow - Parent Coffee - CFG Edition: Technology Usage at ACS and at Home: Tomorrow we look forward to hosting parents as we talk about one of the most confounding concepts of parenting in the 21st Century - technology usage and children. Please check out the poster below for more information and to register:

STEAM Day Recap: Our STEAM Space Day was a wonderful success. It was so rewarding to work with your children across the elementary school as they took on challenges, collaborated with classmates, and worked to solve problems related to science, technology, engineering, art, and math. The day was incredible and we look forward to our next STEAM event, STEAM Family Night, scheduled for March 7, 2024!

Thanks so much for reading, I wish you a week of curiosity and discovery!

Sincerely,

Eric Crabtree
Elementary Principal

Secondary School

Dear parents,

As the end of the semester nears, I would like to invite you to two events this week. The first is a performance by our drama students on Wednesday evening at 6:30 in the Theater. Students will perform "The Act of Life" featuring students' reflections on life in the face of its uncertainties and threats. The second is a holiday-themed concert with our music students on Friday evening, also in the Theater. Both events provide important opportunities for our students to showcase their art while practicing presentation and communication skills, all critical to holistic and healthy development. I hope you will join us to celebrate our performers' efforts.

Only three weeks remain in the term, and all students are expected to attend school daily until Friday, December 15. Content-specific academic learning will continue through Wednesday, December 13, and students will experience a variety of STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics) with their Advisory groups on Thursday, December 14. December 15 will be a half day for all students. Please contact teachers directly if you have any questions or concerns about learning before the end of the semester.
