Superintendent's Office

 Dear ACS Community,

I hope you enjoyed your weekend.  Last Wednesday, we had an incredible turn-out for our Halloween carnival, even though it was on a rescheduled date.  It was great to see the campus so alive in the evening.  Thank you to everyone involved, including parents, students, and teachers.  I do want to say a special thank you, however, to Andy Mendez, Frankie Kerscher and their STUCO teams for all their hard work.

On another note, we have nearly finished our nomination process and will soon start composing our steering committee for strategic planning.  There is still time to show your interest through the link in my message.  We will keep the survey open through tomorrow (Tuesday night).

We had the flurry of activity associated with our Halloween events last week, and next week we will host the High School Friendship games.  So, you might be happy to know that this week is a relatively quiet normal week.  There are no whole school evening events scheduled at the school.  Of course, weeks like this are not idle.  Our teachers are very busy pushing forward the educational mission of our school.  In addition, they are meeting to plan the short and midterm future of our educational program.

Finally, I do want to announce an off-campus event that you may have an interest in attending.  Some of our students will be performing on the stage at the Hard Rock Cafe tomorrow night.  I'm sure our young musicians would appreciate your support.

Have a great week ahead!

Yours,

Andrew

Atentamente,

Andrew

Elementary School

Dear Elementary Parents,

Happy Monday everyone - thanks a million for your presence and support during last week's Halloween Costume Parade and ACS Halloween Fair. It was such a joy to have so many of you on campus, cheering on our young Cougars in the parade. Don't forget - next year, you're invited to participate in the costume parade too!

Child Protection Awareness Month: I mentioned on Class Dojo last week that this month is Child Protection Awareness Month at ACS. We have learning in store for students, teachers, and parents and we hope you will join us in our commitment to doing everything in our power to prevent child abuse and neglect.

Parent Coffee: Child Protection at ACS - Next Friday, November 10, 2023, we will host a Parent Coffee presentation on our proactive approach to child protection & safeguarding. The team will share details on faculty training that takes place, the student-centered curriculum promoting safety rules, and what you can do, as parents to help keep your child safe from abuse and neglect. No registration is necessary and we hope to see you there!

Kindergarten Showcase Reminder: Tomorrow, Tuesday, November 7th at 8:30 am, we will host parents of prospective students in our Kindergarten 3 & 4 classes on campus. We would very much appreciate your help in getting the word out to families you know that may be interested. Thank you!

Scholastic Book Order Ongoing: In case you missed it in ClassDojo, we have a book order out to families at ACS. Please click this link for information on how to order books and other details. Orders are due this Friday.

Thank you for reading. I wish you an adventurous and daring week!

Sincerely,

Eric Crabtree
Elementary Principal

Secondary School

Dear Parents,

Regular reading is an important habit and one of the best ways to support ongoing learning for students of all ages. ACS is excited to be bringing back opportunities for families to purchase books in English. We are partnering with Ernesto Martinez, from Vinculos Publishing, here in La Paz, to offer high-quality books and literature for students from age 3 through Grade 12. The first opportunity will be an online book order to be delivered on or before the last day of school this semester, December 15th - just in time for the holidays. The second will be a physical book fair this coming April, where students and parents will be invited on campus to shop for books from a variety of local and international publishers. To participate, please see below:

To Order:

  1. On or before Friday, November 10, email Ernesto Martinez (ernesto@vinculos.com.bo) the titles and the item numbers (a 1-, 2- or 3-digit number) of the books you want.

  2. Make sure to include “ACS” in your email. Ernesto will reply to you with the total amount owed and options on how to pay (QR, bank transfer, or online payment).

  3. The books will be delivered to the school on or before December 15, 2023; details on their arrival will be shared as they become available.

Learning & Teaching

Dear Families ~

Over the weekend a few of us attended a virtual symposium hosted by AMISA on Artificial Intelligence. We learned the importance of ensuring our students are AI literate. While the definition of AI Literacy continues to develop, a general definition describes it as: AI literacy means having the essential abilities that people need to live, learn and work in our digital world through AI-driven technologies, and this should be taught at the K-12 levels (Steinbauer et al., 2021).

Shifting Schools (www.shiftingschools.com) is an organization that provides resources for furthering understanding of Artificial Intelligence. This week they posted Three Ways for Families to Experiment with AI.

Check it out here, and have some fun with a scavenger hunt, new recipes, and creating a family logo.
